Entry Requirements

Applicants for the masters degrees must normally hold an approved degree or equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institution. Applicants for the Master of Health Administration must have at least four years’ professional experience in the health or aged care sector following completion of their approved degree or equivalent qualification.

Graduates of the Flinders Graduate Certificate in Aged Care Administration, Graduate Certificate in Health Administration and Graduate Diploma in Health Administration may also be accepted for entry to the Master of Health Administration once they have gained at least four years’ professional experience.

IELTS (Academic): 6.0 Overall with 6.0 Speaking, 6.0 Writing; TOEFL iBT: 72 Total score with 18 Speaking, 21 Writing; Pearson PTE Academic: 50 Overall with 50 Speaking, 50 Writing; Cambridge C1 Advanced: 169 Overall with 169 Speaking, 169 Writing; Occupational English Test (OET): 300 Speaking, 300 Writing, 300 Reading, 300 Listening; Duolingo (Up to and including Semester 2, 2024): Overall 95-100

Course Details

The course aims to enhance the competencies of middle level health and aged care managers, equipping them to move to more senior management positions. It is designed to allow students to investigate advanced issues in management through a combination of classroom/online learning with peers and supervised industry-based project/research work. These aims are accomplished by utilising the expertise of our teaching staff (who are also experienced managers) and of health and aged care leaders in both the public and private sectors who lecture in the program.

The course prepares graduates for entry to the Australasian College of Health Service Management and assists medical practitioners to enter the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, students are expected to be able to:

  • apply knowledge of management methods to their practice in managing people and resources
  • use critical analysis and available evidence to address problems and opportunities in health and aged care policy and practice
  • negotiate ethical and practice dilemmas and apply their skills and knowledge to achieving better outcomes for communities, clients and staff
  • provide leadership at a more senior level, and enhance their careers.
